Tau is a microtubule-associated protein. It is mainly expressed in neurons of the central nervous system and regulates the stability of microtubules. In the brain of patients with Alzheimer’s disease, phosphorylated Tau aggregates and forms neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). There is evidence suggesting that the extent of NFTs correlates with the severity of dementia. Therefore, Tau has been studied extensively to better understand the causes of Alzheimer’s disease and to develop novel therapeutics.

Studies suggest that the concentration of Tau and phosphorylated Tau in the cerebrospinal fluid is elevated in patients with Alzheimer’s disease compared with non-dementia patients.

The kit facilitates the measurement of Tau, and recognizes any Tau regardless of the state of phosphorylation.

This product is an ELISA kit which can easily measure Tau and recognizes all Tau regardless of phosphorylation state.
